Inspired by 25 Skills Every Man Should Know, I pondered a list of the 25 essential skills every public speaker should have. How did I do?

I first viewed Dick Hardt‘s Identity 2.0 presentation from OSCON 2005 over two years ago. It was unlike any presentation I had ever seen at the time. I noted that I had just been injected with information.
I recently returned to the presentation with a more critical view.
- Was the presentation really that good?
- Was it the style, the substance, or both?
- More importantly, what can we, as presenters, learn from it?
The Six Minutes blog aims to study effective communication methods, with a focus on public speaking and presentations.
I am a both a practitioner as well as as student of effective communication techniques.
- Written language – reports, emails, letters, proposals, and blogs
- Oral language – 1-on-1 conversations, meetings, presentations
- Body language – gestures, eye movements, body positioning
This is my motivation for starting this blog.
