The Secret of Choosing Successful Speech Topics (Flashback Friday #3)
On Fridays, we dip into the article archive and emerge with one of the most memorable articles. We’ll dust it off, shine a light on it, and consider it from a new perspective.
Today’s Flashback Article
This week, we’re headed back to October 2010, when we provided the secret of choosing successful speech topics, which is to ask yourself three questions:
- Am I an expert on this topic?
- Am I passionate about this topic?
- Does my audience care about this topic?
The article discusses how to make topics work based on the answers to all three questions. (Hint: Many topics can work, even if you originally answer “no” to some of those questions.)
This article has proven to be an Six Minutes audience favorite, particularly among teachers, students, and Toastmasters members, presumably because these groups have the most freedom when it comes to choosing speech topics.
